My name is Cezara Neagu and I’m passionate about music, books, and fine embroidery.
I was born in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova into a family of intellectuals. I studied Journalism and Communication Science in the State University. For 30 years I had the pleasure of working at the National Library in the music section, in a united, friendly team, a real family.
I was always been fascinated by art. Paint, crochet, embroider. Sometimes they combine them. This is my asset. I’m sure of the fact that each of us is born with a talent, but it takes a lot of work to discover and refine it.
I’ve had a passion for embroidery and crochet since I was 6-7 years old. Since then, when I used to come to work with my mother, at Moldova Film Studio. All the Creative Unions in the republic were located in that building. Aunt Masha, a gorgeous Ukrainian lady of about 50 years old, who was like todays security personnel on the entrance of Cinematographers’ Union, instilled in me the love for needles.
I loved painting since I was a kid. After school I usually went to the “Floricica” film’s studio which showed cartoons for children. I was delighted with the atmosphere of creation and harmony there. After one of my works, which I worked on for a few days, Mrs. Victoria Barba, the artistic director of the studio gave me a piece of advice. “Stop painting. It’s better for you to write!” My career as a painter ended that day.
Embroidery allows me to paint with a needle, and create paintings with thread and beads.
I have more than 200 works in my portfolio. I gave many of them as gifts to friends, relatives, and dear people from the country and abroad. My works have reached Romania, France, Canada, Scotland, and the USA.
The idea of combining several genres of art is the result of a “personal dilemma” to have a possibility to create the work of art. The topics touched upon in my work are diverse, as is the technique.
I have a series of works inspired by the paintings of great painters of the world. Theme of icons is present in my works as well. I had an honor to donate some icons to the nunnery in Suruceni village. Also, flora and fauna – are two other topics I often approach. I really like the still life.
I use different technique for my embroideries. I have works in gobelin, crucifix, others in beads… and my favorite technique is gobelin.
Embroidery is based on love, joy, perfectionism, fulfillment, and satisfaction. This is my relationship with this craft.
